UCSD Winter Invitational
UCSD’s Club Swim Team hosted their third ever Winter Invitational on January 18th, 2020! Many of our fellow club swimmers from schools such as UCI, UCLA, GCU, Cal Poly SLO, and USC came through to compete in our own Triton Pool. The whole team came out and performed excellently, with the Men taking the gold and the Women taking the silver. With combined scores, UCSD took second overall to Cal Poly SLO.
The Meet UCSD had a great start to the meet with both Women (Paola Rivas, Kyra Bernhardt, Allie Vela, Kaitlyn Chu, 1:57.99) and Men (Evan Scales, Jason Howard, Eric Livingston, Bryan Liu, 1:38.67) placing first in the 200 Medley Relay, and the Men setting a new meet record in the event by almost four seconds! The Men went on to take first in the 200 Freestyle (Matthew Howard, Miles Corley, Evan Scales, Bryan Liu, 1:30.27) and the 400 Freestyle (Miles Corley, Matthew Howard, Seth Washabaugh, Bryan Liu, 3:22.0) relays, setting meet records in both.
A bit later in the meet, Allie Vela showed off her speed in one of her favorite events, the 100 yd. Butterfly, finishing first with a time of 1:02.45! One of our very own Captain, Paola Rivas, also showed what she’s made of, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.94, just out-touching second place by 0.02 seconds in a close race!
Overall, the meet was a huge success! The UCSD Club Swim team will continue to work hard and get faster and faster as the season goes by, with the hopes of taking home the gold overall in their next meet at UCLA at the end of February.
