On Saturday Jan 18th, we had a great season opener at home against Arizona State University. We started the game strong with our intensity amped up, getting us to our first quick try at 16’ by wing, Anai Gressier. ASU shortly followed with a try at 22’ but we were able to keep up a strong defensive line, preventing them from scoring again for the rest of the game. Our defensive launch was strong and hard, forcing the opposing team to fumble, giving us the upper hand. Additionally, our offensive play was fast and efficient, with great efforts from the forwards and backs working in unison to get the ball to the try zone. The majority of play was on ASU’s side of the field and we saw two remarkable tries by Captain and flyhalf Claire Fetros, as well as one by 8-man/lock Christy Xie with three conversions made by inside center Kaylee Westmoreland. Many of our players played all 80 minutes of the game and the whole team gave it their all on the field leading us to our first victory of the season.
Our first game of the season was a success and we’re looking forward to seeing more like this one in the coming weeks.
