UCSD at the UCLA Fall Invitational Swim Meet
The UCSD Club Swim Team made a splash at the UCLA Fall Invitational on the weekend of November 23rd! Women’s scores, Men’s Scores, and Combined Team Scores all placed Second only to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, with point totals of 488, 616.5, and 1,104.5, respectively.
The meet kicked off to a good start, with the Men’s 200 Medley Relay team (Evan Scales, Jason Howard, Eric Livingston, Bryan Liu) coming in first with a time of 1:39.94. The Men went on to win the other two relays as well; the 200 Freestyle relay, (Eric Livingston, Matt Howard, Tyler Shaver, Bryan Liu, 1:30.72), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Miles Corley, Matt Howard, Jimmy Fahr, Bryan Liu, 3:23.14). The Women also had major success in the relays, placing first in the 200 Freestyle relay (Kaitlyn Chu, Allie Vela, Paola Rivas, Kyra Bernhardt 1:46.41), and the 400 Freestyle Relay (Paola Rivas, Hanna Bush, Alex Sobocinski, Kaitlyn Chu, 4:03.46).
Not only did the Swim Team compete well in the relays, but individually also did not disappoint, placing somewhere in the top three in almost every event! Some highlights of the rest of the meet was Pheobe Bettes, and Julia Ng placing first and second in the 50 Butterfly, with times of 27.11 and 29.40, respectively. Also, Kaitlyn Chu came in first in the 500 Freestyle by an almost 12 second margin with a time of 5:26.89. Matt Howard also won the Men’s 500 Freestyle in an exciting race, out-touching second place by 0.08 seconds, clocking in with a time of 5:02.40. Overall, the swim team performed amazingly, and there was no shortage of success in this year’s UCLA Fall Invitational.
