In their opening weekend, the UCSD Women’s Club Soccer team faced off against UCLA at home. Following a hard fought match the day before, the team was hoping to build upon their momentum and improve their record. With this being their only home game for the fall season, the stands were full of supporters to cheer on the Tritons. The great energy from the fans carried over to the lady Tritons as they played with high intensity from the very beginning. UCSD’s Jade Joiner set the tone for the team by providing constant pressure on UCLA’s defense, quickly scoring the opening goal within the first 10 minutes. However, UCLA was able to respond with their own goal by the end of the half despite the relentless offensive attacks from the Tritons. The second half was met with the same enthusiasm as before, with countless opportunities being created to score. Unfortunately, none were able to find the back of the net and UCLA was able to scrape by the half without conceding a goal. Thankfully, UCSD’s solid back line was also performing well and were able to keep the Bruins from scoring again, and the game ended with a 1-1 draw.
