Scrum By the Sea Wrap Up
The weekend of Nov 2nd to 3rd we hosted our 22nd Annual Scrum by the Sea tournament at UCSD, hosting 16 teams from California and Arizona. Participating teams included: UC Berkeley, UC Davis, CSU Monterey Bay, CSU Northridge, CSU Long Beach, Sacramento State, Occidental College, Claremont College, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, University of Arizona, Arizona State, and Mira Costa. The tournament consisted of two brackets with CSU Northridge and Claremont coming in first place in the competitive and social divisions, respectively.
The UCSD team placed 4th in the competitive bracket, winning both Saturday games against University of Arizona (5-12) and CSU Monterey Bay (0-28). However, we lost both Sunday games against CSU Long Beach (28-15) and UCLA (21-0). Nonetheless, our team kept up a great morale and put up a great fight against these two teams. Our scorers for the weekend included: Kaylee Westmoreland, Chloe Belman, Megan Lloyd, Anaï Gressier, Aoife Noonan and Bella Cobarruvias. Every single member of the team gave it their all this weekend both on the field and in organizing such a successful tournament.
Scrum by the Sea has definitely set the tone for our team this coming year. We have vastly improved from last year and we’re looking forward to see how much we can continue to grow this upcoming season. Our newer players did phenomenally this weekend in terms of enthusiasm and confidence, as this weekend was the first time playing in a game for many of them. As a whole, we still have a lot to improve on but we can tell this year is going to be special.
