This past weekend, the men’s Frisbee B team (Air Squids) went to Santa Barbara for an all B team tournament and achieved a 4th place finish, their highest over the past few seasons. They started by facing UCI’s B-team, taking a commanding lead into half-time and seeing it out for the rest of the match. Following, they faced the Santa Barbara all-stars, a team comprised of the best high school ultimate players in the area. Once again, they took a strong lead into half time and were able to close it out. In the third match of the day, the team faced the B team of UC Davis, and played what the coaches called, “the best ultimate he’s seen the Squids play at that tournament”. Although Davis started to come back after half time, the Squids were able to keep the lead and ensure their place in the winner’s bracket with a 3-0 start heading into their last game of the day.  In a close match to decide the winner of their pool, the squids started slow and allowed their opponents a slim lead, who were then able to hold onto that lead for the rest of the match. The loss put the Squids at 3-1 for the day and meant they would be facing the number one seed SLO - B in their first match of day two. In their semi-final match up, the squids fought hard against a team they’ve had experience with, but ultimately came up short. In their third place match up, the Squids lost by a slim difference, and they finished the day in 4th place, going 3-3 through the weekend. After an unsatisfying finish, the Squids have doubled down, and are focused on improving in the next tournament, a short two weeks away!
