UH Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite Regatta
The UCSD Sailing Team was thrilled to spend the long weekend In Honolulu, HI for the annual Rainbow Invite Regatta hosted by the University of Hawaii. Saturday began with warm weather, 15 to 18 knot winds, and gusts of 20 knots or more. The strong, shifting winds saw many of the boats capsize, an experience made more pleasant by the warm waters of Ke’ehi Lagoon. The day finished with a delicious barbeque that all of the competitors came together to enjoy.
Sunday saw slightly stronger winds that picked up to 20 to 25 knots by the end of the day. The UCSD Sailing Team enjoyed an excellent weekend sailing in the warm weather of O’ahu and winds stronger than usually found at home in Mission Bay. University of Hawaii unsurprisingly took 1st and 2nd place, and the UCSD team was pleased to place 13th out of the competitive 17 boat fleet.
