UCSD Women's Lacrosse Last Scrimmage of Fall Ball vs. CSUSM
On Wednesday November 12, 2019, the UCSD Women’s Lacrosse Club team competed in their last Fall Ball season scrimmage against their across town rivals, CSU San Marcos. UCSD welcomed back their veteran players to the field, including an outstanding performance from returning junior attacker, Laysha Nava Huerta, who scored 6 out of UCSD’s 10 total goals. Senior team captains, Nicole Goodwin and Audrey Nunez, also helped lead the lady tritons on the field, with Nicole scoring 2 goals and Audrey scoring 1 goal.
Other notable veteran performances included senior midfielder and South Korea National Women’s Lacrosse team player, Jiyoung Yun, whose incredible speed and stick skills helped multiple transitions down the field from the draw. On the defensive end, returning sophomore, Tina Wang, and returning junior, Aidan Ryan, showed great effort with multiple ground ball pickups and passes down to the offensive end on turnovers. Returning sophomore goalie, Josie Ballard, displayed leadership on the defensive end of the field with guiding new defensive players around the 8-meter and making 4 back-to-back saves on goal!
UCSD also welcomed many rookie players to the field and witnessed impressive performances from them, including freshman midfielder, Melina Tsotras, who scored 1 goal. Freshman midfielder, Gillian Huskovsky, also proved to be a threat on the field for stepping up as the team’s main center/draw-taker throughout the scrimmage and providing an assist to one of Nicole Goodwin’s goals.
Although the lady tritons fell short to 10-14 against San Marcos, they showed great effort and grit throughout the scrimmage and seemed to dominate the pace of the game throughout the second half.
UCSD will face-off against CSUSM again on February 22nd during the Spring season at home on Muir Field!
