Tritons Tie with Division Rival in Preseason Game

The most talked about preseason game to ever grace Muir field saw the Tritons play at their highest level yet against their despised rival CSUSM. The 2 pairs of stands were packed with excited fans and people who got dragged to the game by their friends.

The game, however, did not start well for the Tritons, as junior midfielder Grant “Rocket” Barclay went down with a broken wrist 10 seconds into the game. Despite this adversity, the Tritons rallied around rookies Finn “Lax Rat” Reid and “Below Average Matt” Matt Myrham to put together its most complete offensive game yet. Putting up 5 points total, the Triton offense controlled the tempo of the game to enter the half tied with CSUSM 2-2.

The Tritons usually stalwart defense played below their usual level and committed several penalties in key moments in the second half, allowing for CSUSM to capitalize and stay in the game. This led to the final score being 5-5, leaving everyone with the slightly bitter taste of mediocrity.

Overall the future looks exceedingly bright for the Tritons, as they were able to hang with a division rival despite playing all of their lines and lacking an actual defensive scheme. If the Tritons can build on the promise shown versus San Marcos, the sky seems to be the limit for this squad.
