Tritons Cruise Against Dirtbags to Sweep Doubleheader
This past Saturday, the Tritons hosted the Long Beach State Dirtbags for some doubleheader action. The arms dominated and the bats did plenty enough to secure two blowout wins.
Game 1
The bats waited a couple innings to get going in the morning, but the offense quickly found a groove. Senior Jacob Springman drove in the game’s first run with a third inning double. He then scored on a single from freshman Dylan Vargas. UCSD would tack on a third run in the fourth with a RBI single off the bat of senior Miguel Moreno. The game would be broken open in the bottom of the fifth with four runs coming across. Freshman Curtis Faletti had an RBI single, senior Alex Uy scored on a fielder’s choice, Moreno then singled in two more runs. The Dirtbags would squeak a run across in the sixth, but run scoring error in the bottom of the inning would maintain the gap at seven runs. Four Triton pitchers - Michael Robichaux (FR.), Jordan Doole (SO.), Marcus Kai Sawamura (FR.), and Matt Hosino (SR.) - combined to handle the Long Beach bats in the blowout.

Game 2
With a completely new starting lineup in game two, the Tritons didn’t miss a beat. After a scoreless first, the offense put up a quartet of runs in the second. Sophomore Jonathon Lutz doubled home a pair, then fellow sophomore Jordan Doole doubled him home. He would score on an RBI groundout from freshman D’artagnan Ramirez. Dylan Vargas tripled in the third to score a run, then in the fourth a wild pitch and an error brought home a pair of runs. Sophomore Adan Estrada snagged an RBI with a groundout and wild pitch plated another run. Five pitchers - Jarrett Thompson (FR.), Ray Estrada (SR.), Darryl Contrano (FR.), Matt Hosino, and David Gomez (SR.) - combined to shutout the Dirtbags in game two to earn the sweep.
Game 2: Tritons 9 Dirtbags 0
The Tritons improve to 3-1 on the fall with the sweep. Next up is the first road trip of the year up north to the UC Davis Aggies on November 9th and 10th. The short home portion of the fall season has wrapped as the remainder of the Tritons’ fall games will be played away from San Diego.
