UCSB vs UCSD
After taking a weekend off UCSD Women’s Rugby traveled up to Santa Barbara this weekend to face off against the UC Santa Barbara Women’s Rugby team, who were the division champs last year. While there have been rainy conditions throughout most of California earlier in the week, in Santa Barbara on Saturday it was a perfectly sunny day for the rugby teams. The game began with UCSD kicking off to the UCSB, UCSD was able to hold their opposition for a while, but due to a few missed tackles and the speed of UCSB they scored the first try of the match. Due to the pressure put on by UCSD they were able to cause a turnover, SD continued to drive forward and were able to get inside UCSB’s 22m line. SD did well to play its advantages and had SB on their back foot for a while, but lost the ball to a plenty, taking away the chance to earn a try. SB was able to continually find weaknesses in SD’s defensive line, and SD just seemed not to be able to match SB’s speed it made it difficult for them to recover after a missed tackle or line break. Second half started off with SD receiving the ball but was quickly upset by an accidental scrum collapse, which resulted in SD’s hooker getting injured. The ball was then turned over to SB after time commenced. While SD put up an even tougher defense and continued to put pressure on SB causing some turnovers and steals, SB was able to score another three trys. The half ended without SD being able to score a try. UCSD has one more game left for their official season, it will be on March 9th against Grand Canyon University at Warren Field at UCSD.
