UCSD
UCSD Club Swim Team hosted the second ever UCSD Winter Invitational meet on Saturday, February 16th.
UCSD Club Swim finished in second place overall with a first place finish in the men’s division and a third place finish in the women’s division. In total, seven schools attended UCSD’s Fall Invitational with Cal Poly SLO taking first place, Grand Canyon in third place, USC in fourth, UCI in fifth, USD in sixth, UCLA in seventh, and CSUSM in eighth place.
Several swimmers from the club swim team had outstanding performances. On the men’s side, Timothy Hornyak placed first in each of his individual events: the 200 IM (2:14.91), the 200 Breast (2:14.91), the 100 Breast (1:00.84), and the 100 IM (56.41). All of Tim’s swims were meet records. Eric Livingston also swam well for the team with a first place meet record 100 Fly (53.83), and second in the 100 Free (49.27). Evan Scales had an outstanding 100 Backstroke, coming in first with a time of 56.53, less than a tenth of a second off of the meet record.
On the women’s side, several notable swimmers scored numerous points for UCSD. Allie Vela placed second in the 100 Fly (59.17), first with a meet record in the 50 Free (25.85), and first in the 100 Back (1:05.40). Kyra Bernhardt also had a stellar meet complete with a number of meet records. She placed first in the 50 Breast (30.67), first in the 100 Fly (58.59), first in the 50 Fly (26.42), and first in the 100 Breast (1:06.84).
It was a great meet overall for UCSD Club Swim with a second place team finish and many swimmers getting personal best times along with eleven new meet records. This was an exciting outcome for the largest meet that UCSD has ever hosted (130+ swimmers from 8 teams). With this strong finish, UCSD is securing its spot as one of the top teams in the California Intercollegiate Swim Club Association! The team is ready to make a splash in its next meet!
