On January 19th, the UC San Diego Badminton team traveled to UC Los Angeles to compete in the very first league match of the 2019 season. During this meet, UC San Diego faced UC Davis and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO), both strong opponents with talented players. However, UC San Diego was able to defeat both of these opponents, proving that their success at the Pre-Season tournament was no fluke. Against Cal Poly, UC San Diego swept in both the Women’s singles and Women’s doubles categories. Women’s singles was especially dominant, with all three players defeating their opponents in straight sets. In other categories, players such as Ian Yee and Jason Ho, both Men’s singles players, were able to clutch out their games, defeating their opponents in the third set. Overall, UC San Diego defeated Cal Poly SLO 12 to 3. Similarly, UC San Diego also performed well against UC Davis, with UC San Diego sweeping the Men’s singles category. Other notable players include Carleen Li, who defeated her opponent in straight sets (21-16, 21-9), and Lawrence Leung (21-11, 21-10). Against UC Davis, the final score was 10-5. With these two wins in their pocket, the UC San Diego is looking forward to the next league match, which is scheduled to be sometime in February. Here’s hoping the success continues!
