The UC San Diego Sailing Team was lucky to enjoy a gorgeous weekend in Honolulu, HI, for the annual Rainbow Invite Regatta, hosted by University of Hawaii. The team raced against 17 other teams from across the country. It’s a great chance to race against teams outside of the PCCSC division, and the sailing is always great in Honolulu.
UC San Diego Sailing enjoyed balmy, 80F weather on both Saturday and Sunday, with strong and consistent winds between 14 and 18 knots—ideal sailing conditions. The UC San Diego boat placed 15th out of 18 strong teams in an incredibly competitive fleet.
While not sailing, the sailors were able to explore the island and adventure. They found time for beaches, snorkeling, gorgeous sunrise hikes, and all sorts of island fun in between races! Not only does UH host an incredibly fun, dynamic, and challenging regatta, UC San Diego’s trip to Hawaii also gives the sailors time to break away from their course work for a long weekend in the sun, and grow closer as a team. It was an incredible way to kick off the 2019 Winter/Spring sailing season.
