UCSD Club Swim Makes a Splash at UCLA Fall Invitational
UCSD Club Swim Team had its first meet of the year at UCLA’s December 1st Fall Invitational.
UCSD Club Swim finished in third place overall with a second place finish in the men’s division and a fourth place finish in the women’s division, respectively. In total, ten schools attended UCLA’s Fall Invitational with Cal Poly SLO taking first place, Grand Canyon in second place, UCLA in fourth, UC Davis in fifth, UCR in sixth, USC in seventh, UCI in eighth, CSU San Marcos in ninth, and SJSU in tenth place.
Several swimmers from the club swim team had outstanding performances. On the men’s side, Timothy Hornyak placed first in each of his individual events: the 200 IM (1:59.60), the 200 Breast (2:13.54), the 100 Breast (58.92), and the 100 IM (56.41). Eric Livingston also swam well for the team with second place finishes in both the 100 Fly (54.15), and 100 Free (49.23). Newcomer Evan Scales had a stellar 100 Backstroke, coming in first with a finals time of 57.52. The men also finished in third place in the 200 free relay, and third in the 400 free relay.
On the women’s side, several notable swimmers scored numerous points for UCSD. Allie Vela scored several points as she placed second in the 100 Fly (1:01.25), first in the 100 Free (26.00), first in the 50 Free (28.02), and first in the 100 IM (1:05.62). Freshman Kyra Bernhardt placed first in the 50 Breast (32.43), first in the 100 Fly (1:00.80), second in the 50 Fly (28.07), and first in the 100 Breast (1:10.75). Numerous returning swimmers additionally had strong swims.
It was a great meet overall for UCSD Club Swim finished in third with many swimmers getting personal best times. This was a solid finish for a relatively young team, attending the largest swim meet we have attended so far (200+ swimmers from 10 teams). It appears that UCSD Club Swim is off to a strong start and the team is looking to continue this success at the next meet this year!
