UCSD Takes Part in the Virtual Stars ALS Awareness Meet

Four UCSD gymnasts took part in the November Virtual Stars Competition, benefitting the ALS Association. The format of this competition allowed for gymnasts from schools all over the country to compete against one another without having to leave their own training centers. All participating gymnasts submit their videos to Virtual Stars, the organization processes the videos, and their routines are reviewed and ranked by judges.

UCSD Juniors Allyson Osborn and Elaine Silverman competed all women’s apparatuses (Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise) in the Women's Levels 8 and 9 respectively. UCSD Grad Students Kyle Thackston & Philipp Arndt competed Men’s Level 9 with Arndt competing all men’s apparatuses (Vault, High Bar, Still Rings, Parallel Bars, Pommel Horse, and Floor Exercise). Because of the nature of the competition, scores for the gymnasts’ routines won’t be released until the first or second week of December. Nonetheless, all UCSD gymnasts did a fantastic job at the first meet of the 2018-2019 Season, leading the way for the rest of their teammates, who are looking to kick off their season at UCLA in January.
