Tritons Take the Win from Long Beach
On a cloudy Saturday afternoon, our lady tritons took the field to play their last season game against their opponent CSU Long Beach. This game, if they won, would help the club team reach regionals. Starting kickoff a minute before Long Beach would have had to forfeit, the game began. CSU Long Beach had arrived 3:10 PM when kickoff was planned for 3PM. The lady tritons started fast and had numerous opportunities to score, but could not find the back of the net and ended the first half 0-0.
The second half started off quick as well and about 15 minutes into the half is when UCSD scored their first goal of the match. Off of a free kick just outside Long Beach’s 18 yard box, Miriam Bell followed up the kick which rebounded from the goalkeepers hands and scored.
The UCSD women’s club soccer team was able to stay defensively organized and prevent Long Beach from scoring throughout the rest of the second half. This resulted in a 1-0 win for the Tritons.
