Tritons Attack UCI for the First Win of the Season
Sunday, October 7th the mighty Tritons drove up to UCI to face off against the Anteaters. The game began at 12 o’clock sharp with both teams battling to gain possession of the ball. Within the first 10 minutes, the Anteaters snuck in a lucky shot against the Tritons making it a score of 0-1, UCI. However, this did not discourage the Tritons as Junior forward Kenzie Kirn took an amazing shot from a distance making it 1-1. Before the half ended, the Tritons were continuously making great passes up and down the field and once again captain Kenzie Kirn scored a stellar shot off a free kick, giving the Tritons a 2-1 lead. As the 2nd half began, the Tritons came out with both strong defense and good attacks up the flanks of the field. In one play, midfielder Liz Yang played a nice through ball to Kenzie Kirn who scored her third goal of the game. On another attack by the Tritons, Cynthia Ruiz had a beautiful tap-in goal off of a deflected shot. She placed the ball right behind the outstretched goalie making it a score of 4-1, Tritons. As the battle continued, both teams subbed players in to keep the level of play intense. In the last minute of the game, goalie Amy Schwartz, playing as forward, had a calm and controlled shot from the top of the box that rolled along the back of the net, making it a final score of 5-1. With good communication, hard work, and possession, the UCSD Tritons were able to defeat UCI. Tune in next weekend to read about UCSD WCS as they head out to the play in the UCSB showcase!
