UCSD Open and UCSD Frosh/Soph Regattas
The PCCSC college sailing teams from 15 universities along the West Coast all travelled to San Diego this past weekend to compete in the 2018 UCSD Frosh/Soph Regatta and the 2018 UCSD Open Regatta. After a pleasant and windy two days of racing for the sailors, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos finished first in both the Frosh/Soph Regatta and the Open Regatta. Cloudy skies held Saturday in a gloomy overcast, but wind maintained a comfortable 8-12 knots throughout both days of races. This was the first regatta of the college sailing season, and the UCSD sailing team was both proud and excited to host 15 teams at the Mission Bay Yacht Club to kick off the season. The purpose of hosting two regattas is to give all sailors an opportunity to race; the Open Regatta welcomes back returning and experienced sailors, while the Frosh/Soph regatta offers a great opportunity to new sailors to race at the beginning of the season. For many sailors, Frosh/Soph is their very first college regatta and the UCSD Sailing Team was excited to put on a great race for old and new sailors alike.
