NEW ATHLETE INFORMATION
Looking for a new sport at UCSD? Are you a seasoned pro looking to sharpen your skills even further? Want to just get some exercise and have a fun at the same time? UCSD has you covered with the extensive Collegiate Sports Club Program.
Our teams compete nationally with other colleges and universities, often coming back with titles and trophies. All UCSD students are eligible to join a team, regardless of skill level. Teams are student-organized and funded, so the success of the team is largely dependent upon the dedication of people like yourself.
If you would like to learn more about the individual teams, you can do so by visiting their respective pages and/or contacting the team captains.
JOINING A SPORTS CLUB
Eligibility
Only full-time UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the Sports Clubs program. Extension students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Community Members, etc. are NOT eligible. Furthermore, you must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and be in good academic standing in order to participate.
Incoming Students
If you are a student planning to attend UCSD in the future, please feel free to peruse this site, as well as the main UCSD Admissions website to get a better feel for our program and what to expect during the admissions process. Go to UC San Diego Admissions to set up campus tours, get information on admission requirements and processes, to apply to UC San Diego, etc. The Sports Clubs program cannot help with the acceptance process, but once you are accepted to the University we are happy to help you find a team to get involved with. If you have any program questions, feel free to reach out to our Director of Competitive Sports, Dominic Ackerman.
Current Students
If you are a current UCSD student, contact the leadership of the team you’re interested in for more information – they will be more than willing to answer all of your questions about the team. Once you have selected the team you are interested in joining, you will need to completely register on our online management system known as Do Sports Easy (DSE) via the sports clubs webpage.
Some teams will require you to try-out at the start of the year. You can find information about the tryouts on the individual team pages, their Facebook pages, or by emailing them directly. After acceptance to the team, all athletes will be required to complete all pages of the Sports Clubs registration, including medical insurance information and health history. Players participating in Men’s Rugby, Women’s Rugby, Men’s Lacrosse, Gymnastics and Ice Hockey will also require a physical before they can be approved to play. Lastly, players participating in sports deemed to be high risk/high contact will need to complete baseline testing before being approved to play.
Although Sports Clubs are partially funded by the school, you will have to pay additional dues, which varies with every team. Talk to your team leadership about those costs and their individual policies.
Other than that, make sure you attend practices, play your hardest, get involved, and most of all have fun. We are excited to have you be a part of this fantastic community, and we wish you all the best in your long and prosperous Sports Clubs career!
