This Halloween weekend was the first Western Show of the '17-18 season. The show was a doubleheader on Saturday 10/18, held at Cal Poly Pomona. The show was hosted by Cal Poly Pomona and Mt Sac, and was appropriately Halloween themed. Bearing the heat, the show was a great success. UCSD competed against Cal Poly Pomona, Mt Sac, U of A, and UCLA's new Western Team. Samantha Watts, competing in the Novice division, came away with a third in the morning and a first in the afternoon. UC San Diego Takes on the Claremont Show

POSTED BY LIZ HENRY

On the weekend of November 11th through 12th, the UC San Diego Equestrian team headed east for the show in Norco. It was a tough one but its shows like these that challenge us as a team and bring us closer together. It's a good reminder to why we are doing this in the first place: horseback riding is what we all love and we have a great time doing it. Despite how we may do at a show, riding is what ultimately keeps us going and what we must focus in on.

Everybody managed to pull it together and we had a good show overall, with huge improvements for everyone on Sunday!

Becca Huntly-Playle placed second in open flat on Saturday, and fourth in open fences and reserve in open flat on Sunday. Aleena Karamally placed sixth in intermediate flat on Saturday, and fourth in intermediate flat on Sunday. Madeline Haff was awarded reserve in advanced walk-trot-canter on Saturday. Dani Sprouse was awarded reserve in beginning walk-trot-canter on Sunday. Alyssa Franklin placed third in beginning walk-trot-canter on Saturday. It was also her first time riding in this division! Sasha Doval placed second in beginning walk-trot-canter on Sunday.

We are very proud of everyone!

Spooky Saturday Shows

POSTED BY LIZ HENRY
On October 29 two days before Halloween, UC San Diego's Western Team cohosted a double header show with Mt Sac at Cal Poly Pomona's stable and proved themselves capable of holding their own. The shows went excellently, all according to schedule. UCSD began the morning with the first show, with Jenika Galvin finishing in fourth place and Elena Browne winning fifth place in Intermediate II. It was their first ever show in IHSA and they had a blast! In the afternoon, Jenika rode again and received fifth place; Samantha Watts received first place in Intermediate II, as well. Most notably, however, the team showed outstanding support for each other and the other teams' members. They were eager to step up and help in any way possible, aiding the efficiency of the whole day.
