10/11/25 - Aztec Invitational
The Tritons played at their neighboring college, San Diego State University to have their A and B teams play 4 games each.
On Saturday, the A Team played Cal Poly Slo, winning 11-7 with some standout newcomers, as Anjali Boyd and Esther Sullivan scored 2 goals each. An unexpected change for the second game originally against UC Davis, the Tritons’ opponent was switched to the SDSU A Team. The Tritons put up a good fight and went into overtime with the Aztecs. Story Waxman was a crucial part of the defense, blocking 7 Aztec shots. Emma Amakasu assisted 5 of the Tritons’ 14 goals, leading the team in assists. The B Team also had some great games on Day 1 of the tournament, first playing a mixed UCLA A Team and putting up a great fight against them. Being more of a defensive game, the Tritons had 3 players with 3 steals each and the starting goalie, Beth Flynn blocked 5 shot attempts from the other team. Their second game that night was against UC Berkeley, in which Kay Pivonka and Kailee Wendeln-Lankard each scored 1 goal to total the stats.
On Sunday, the A Team played UC Berkeley, for the first game of the day. Shristi Bandyopadhyay led the team with 3 out of 7 of the game’s goals, followed by Elizabeth Hernandez with 2, ultimately coming up short against the Bears. Turning it around in their second game against UCLA B, they won 17-8, winning all 4 sprints and getting 9 out of 13 of their present players to score a goal. UCSD B had 2 final games on Sunday as well, the first being against UCLA B, ultimately coming up a little short, however with sprinters Isabella Worley, Soledad Norman and Catherine Morgan-Chun, they won all 4 sprints. Defensively, the Tritons totaled 11 steals. Their second game was against SDSU B, who they played a great game against. Catherine Morgan-Chun led the goals with 3 shots on cage and Taylor Humphreys led the exclusions with 4 out of 11 total, one of which resulted in a 6 on 3 possession, which ended in a goal.
Overall, it was a fun weekend to get the Tritons started with their 2025-2026 season. The team is looking forward to their scrimmages on Halloween, 10/31 against some community college teams to really work on team chemistry.
