    3/1/26 - Triton Coastal Classic

The UC San Diego Gymnastics Team had a blast and excelled at their third annual home meet, the Triton Coastal Classic, on Sunday, March 1st, 2026. The team planned, set up, and ran the competition and was excited to welcome San Diego State University, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of California, Davis, the University of Southern California, Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, the Seawind Adult Gymnastics Club, and several independent community athletes.

Over two sessions, the team competed across all levels of Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and brought home lots of medals!

In the Developmental division, the team set the tone with confident performances and exciting finishes across the board. Kayla delivered a strong all around effort, earning second on vault, third on high bar, third on floor, and finishing second for all-around. Kristina powered her way to first place on both pommel and vault, showcasing strength and precision. Malia had a standout meet, taking first on floor, first on high bar, third on rings, and capturing first for all-around. Mia soared to first on rings and secured second for all-around, and Kaitlyn Fong added second on rings and third on all-around  to the medal count. Rebecca celebrated an exciting milestone by competing rings for the very first time, embracing the challenge with confidence. Morgan rounded out the division’s success with a strong second place finish on pommel.

In the Intermediate and Advanced divisions, the team continued to build momentum with polished, high level routines. David led the Intermediate group with an impressive sweep, earning first place on rings, pommel, and parallel bars. Ari demonstrated consistency across events, placing third on rings, second on floor, and third on pommel before finishing with a first place on all-around. Competing in the Advanced division, Raina delivered a standout performance, capturing first on rings.

The Silvers team added another wave of standout results. Nyla placed second on vault, third on bars, second on beam, and finished second on all around with steady, confident routines. Amelie shined brightly, earning first on vault and bars, third on beam, and taking home the all around title. Nohely contributed second on bars, second on floor, and third on all around with consistent performances. Alexa powered through to third on vault, third on bars, first on floor, and second on all around. Kaitlyn Lin claimed first on bars with a standout routine, and Ellery finished strong with a second place finish on beam.

The Xcel Platinums were able to bring an excellent performance to this competition. Not only did our previous athletes show tremendous execution on their routines, Morgan Ayan was able to move up a level and join the Platinum team! Congratulations to the presidents of UCSD club gymnastics, Sydney Kundert and Kristina Ma, both competing exceptionally well in the all around, all while running the meet! A huge shoutout to Amy Fong and Maia Harris for performing their floor routines, showing off their beautiful choreography. Kate Allison and our first time competitor Melyna Smith did outstanding jobs on their events, killing it with gorgeous vaults and Melyna’s high score of 9.1 on beam! In the all around, Roxanne Mayali assured everyone of her unfailing presentations, securing 3rd with a 36.65!

The Xcel Diamond team welcomed Kaitlyn Fong, who upgraded her routines from Xcel Platinum, and Ari Pasha, who brought joy, crowdwork, and impressive tumbling to his floor routine. Congratulations to Alina Teodorescu for putting up a strong all-around performance, Liliana Echevarria for her 9.15 on bars, and Frances Scott for achieving consistent, high scores on bars (9.4), beam (9.2), and floor (9.4)!

The Diamonds shone with several podium placements. Mia Roe had a powerful run and high block on vault, earning 9.2 for a second place finish. Malia and Mia earned second and third place on bars, respectively, scoring 9.65 and 9.45–both gymnasts hit their handstands, performed giants, and soared with flyaway dismounts on bars. On beam, Kayla aced her acrobatic series and roundoff flight to place third with a 9.35. Mia performed a clean back walkover series and a gorgeous switch leap, earning second place with a 9.4. Malia stuck her back handspring and series dismount, placing first with a 9.6. Across both sessions, the Diamonds delivered impressive floor routines. Malia upgraded her tumbling for a 9.65, finishing third, while Victoria earned second place with graceful, dramatic choreography and beautiful saltos. Kaitlyn Fong combined lyrical dance, pop star energy, and floating layouts, winning first place with a 9.75! The All-Around winners were Malia and Mia.

To tie it all off, the Level 9’s finally had a full team! Despite being separated into 2 sessions, the girls performed as though they were competing together. Audrey Huang put together an incredible routine on floor, securing first with a 9.5. She ended the meet 3rd in the all around! As a first time competitor for UCSD, Rebecca Sautter created an encouraging atmosphere, completing all of her routines! She was able to take home the gold in vault, bars, beam, and the all around. Raina Eghbalyans had an impressive competition, sticking all 4 of her routines, even bars, which was a first! She secured first on beam (9.45), floor (9.55) and in the all around (36.55).

In addition to being the long-awaited home meet, the Triton Coastal Classic served as the team’s senior night. UC San Diego Gymnastics recognized Melyna Smith, Nyla Janmohamed, Kayla Phillips, Kristina Ma, Lauren Yerger, Frances Scott, Alexa Reyes, Sydney Kundert, Kaitlyn Fong, and Morgan Ayan with flowers and handwritten cards to honor the time, enthusiasm, skill, and care the soon-to-be graduates brought to the team.

To wrap up winter quarter competitions, the Tritons will be traveling to Los Angeles and Redmond, WA.
