2/28/26 - UC’s Show and Regionals
UCSD hit it out of the park this weekend at their final horse show of the season, co-hosted alongside UCLA at Hansen Dam Horse Park. At the end of the weekend, the regionals show happened, determining what riders could continue onto the post season!
UCSD competed against UCLA, USC, Cal Poly Pomona, U of A and ASU and brought home reserve high point team on Saturday. Highlights from this competition include Maddy Kido placed 3rd in the Open over fences as well as 6th in the Open flat. In the intermediate division, Francesca Calamari placed 1st in the over fences, and was soon followed by Kristen Lee placing 3rd in the Limit over fences and Erica Nash placing 5th in the Limit over fences. Kristen Lee would then go on to place 1st in the limit flat and Erica Nash placed 5th in the limit flat. These awards would result in Kirsten successfully placing out of both the limit flat and limit over fences, securing her spot in the regional competition that would later happen on Sunday. Finishing up on Saturday, Ananya Chandorkar placed 5th in the Novice flat, Carrie Pond placed 3rd in the Prenovice flat and Taylor Henning placed 5th in the Intro flat.
On Sunday, Maddy Kido once again placed 3rd in the Open over fences and 5th in the Open flat. Alexis Azarian also placed 4th in the Open over fences, and was soon followed by Francesca Calamari once again placing 1st in the Intermediate over fences, successfully pointing out and securing her spot at Zones later this month. Following this, Erica Nash would place 5th in the Limit over fences and 3rd in the Limit flat and Sydney Eck placed 2nd in the Novice flat.
Once the regular show was finished, Kristen Lee and Erica Nash would compete in multiple regional classes in an attempt to secure their spot at Zones, with Kristen Lee placing 2nd in both Limit Flat and over fences and Erica Nash placing 2nd in the Novice flat. Both of them successfully secured their position and will soon fly to Stanford alongside Francesca Calamari and Chloe Care to represent UCSD at the end of the month. In addition to the first successful post-season show, Captain Kristen Lee received the sportsmanship award, having been nominated by the majority of other schools for her constant good attitude and smiley demeanor.
The last regular show of the season was a weekend of good vibes and impeccable teamwork that ensured everything ran smoothly! The team can't wait to see where the post-season will take them!
