2/17/26 - Sportsmanship on Display: UCSD and SDFHC Face Off in Friendly Scrimmage

UC San Diego hosted a friendly scrimmage against SDFHC in a match that emphasized sportsmanship and collaboration as much as competition. Because SDFHC arrived with a short roster, several UCSD players volunteered to join their side so that both teams could play a full, balanced game. This adjustment set the tone for the afternoon, turning the scrimmage into a cooperative and respectful contest where the main focus was getting quality play time and sharpening skills.

Throughout the match, both teams played with a high level of intensity while maintaining a positive and civil atmosphere. The mixed rosters created an interesting dynamic on the field, with players working alongside teammates they normally compete against. Communication and adaptability became especially important, as everyone adjusted quickly to new lineups and playing styles. The game featured strong defensive efforts, quick transitions, and several well-developed scoring opportunities from both sides.

In the end, the scrimmage served as a valuable experience for everyone involved. It allowed players to gain extra game experience, build connections within the local field hockey community, and demonstrate the spirit of the sport. By prioritizing fairness and teamwork—especially by lending players to SDFHC—UCSD helped ensure that the match remained competitive, enjoyable, and respectful from start to finish.
