2/13-15/26 - UCSD Kicks off the Denver Tournament

The Tritons began their tournament in Denver with a Friday night matchup against the Montana State Bobcats under the lights. The team put forth a strong effort in a hard-fought contest, demonstrating skill and determination against a deep and experienced Montana State squad. Despite their energy and strategic play, UCSD ultimately fell short, unable to overcome the depth and execution of their opponents.

The following day, the Tritons rebounded with a commanding performance against North Dakota State University, securing a 12–5 victory. The win was fueled by four points from junior attackman Jackson Edwards, whose offensive creativity and finishing ability kept the team in control. Senior face-off specialist Blake Zimmerman also played a pivotal role, dominating possession and giving the Tritons the consistent opportunities they needed to maintain momentum throughout the game. Team cohesion, communication, and resilience were on full display, providing a sharp contrast to the previous day’s challenging matchup.

The final game of the tournament saw UCSD take on University of Montana. The first half was closely contested, with the Tritons showing flashes of the same intensity and skill that had led to their earlier victory. However, a combination of injuries and accumulated fatigue began to affect the team’s performance in the second half. Montana capitalized on the Tritons’ struggles, gradually building a lead and closing out the game with a 10–3 victory. While the result was disappointing, the team demonstrated perseverance and teamwork, competing valiantly against a strong opponent despite the physical and mental challenges of the tournament.

Overall, the trip highlighted both the strengths and areas for growth of the Tritons, showcasing individual talent, key contributions from experienced players, and the collective effort required to compete at a high level on the road.
