UCSD Masters Swimming hosts this ‘interestingly strange’ holiday swim challenge and pancake breakfast. This event includes 1 minute for everyone to air their grievances in life (it’s not as easy as it looks)…a swim ‘feat of strength’ (challenges with an aquatic interest)…and FESTIVUS miracles (great things that happen without warning), spread throughout a swim workout the first Saturday in December at the Canyonview Aquatics Center. Great fun with great friends. C’mon in and swim something totally different…and have some of the best ‘cakes in town!
A giant beach party for freshmen and transfer students at the end of Welcome Week! Count on a fun day in the sun, sand, and surf, featuring: free surf lessons, kayak paddling, pier tours, the world famous surfing dogs, tide pool tours, beach games, dj music, free lunch, lots of giveaways including beach towels to the first 3,000.

Free sample classes include aerial skills, gymnastics, handstand workshops, hip-hop, and more! Also martial arts demonstration of the various types of classes offered; ask instructors questions.

This is the annual UCSD Women’s Rugby tournament and the first large tournament for Sports Clubs of the year. This usually brings around 17 visiting women’s rugby teams to UCSD.

This swim is sponsored by the Director/Head Coach Sickie each year, and happens around November 21st. Basically it’s a set of increasing number of repeat distance swims each year, swimming a yard a second.at Canyonview Pool (yes, it can be done). It’s not for a beginner…but if you survive, there’s always a good breakfast feast afterwards to help with your recovery.

This tournament brings teams from the California area to UCSD for both the Men’s and the Women’s Ultimate Disc programs. It’s an opportunity for all clubs to get some friendly competition in before their seasons start.

Yoga for Lauren is a fundraising event to support Lauren, a long time UCSD Recreation Yoga teacher.
About Lauren: Lauren has been sharing the gift of yoga here at UC San Diego FitLife Recreation and around San Diego as both a yoga teacher and yoga therapist. She is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and now needs our help and support. Donations will go towards her medical and living expenses.

This is a ballroom dance competition put on by the UCSD Dancesport team. It involves partner dance competitions of all skill level as well as a team competition component. It finishes with a guest performance of one of the world’s most talented ballroom dance duos.

The one hour swim for distance always happens on the last Wednesday of January at all of the UCSD Masters Swimming workouts. It’s a great challenge to have at the beginning of the year, to get people motivated to start training after the long holiday season. Ya’ just have to know how to count!

This is a Sports Club event to create community among the captains as they battle it out for the title of Dodgeball Champion. It’s also an opportunity to give back to the community with either a toy or clothing drive.

This swim event happens on President’s Day every year in the UCSD Masters Swimming program. Swimmers are encouraged to swim all 4 workouts in one day and in return will earn a can of ‘PORK ‘N BEANS’ and a certificate worth framing. A great conversation starter in group settings!

This event happens around early in Spring Quarter.
This yearly event, sponsored by the UCSD Masters Sports program, gathers at the La Jolla Cove on Memorial Day to remember the athletes in the program who have passed away. The group gathers on the grass above the cove to hear a short story about each athlete. After this tribute, swimmers move to the beach, followed by a 1 mile ocean swim to the Eco Buoy, where a circle is made a a rousing cheer is shared by all of the swimmers. Every is welcome.

This is the Sports Clubs program final hurrah. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge and thank many of the talented athletes, teams, and leaders our program has to offer.
This event happens around the last Friday of May.
Here’s a great opportunity to join the UCSD Masters Triathlon program and the UCSD Tri Club in a campus 2.4 mile swim followed by a nice (112 mile) bike ride, the day before the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon, making this the perfect Ironman event, spread over two days. It’s good way to do the longer race, with a good night’s sleep in between.

This is our annual club soccer tournament which brings anywhere from 20-24 visiting club soccer teams to sunny San Diego. It’s the only annual field spring tournament we have.

The Odyssey Ropes Course, located in the eucalyptus forest near the track, offers the chance to problem solve and overcome obstacles as a team — 40 feet above the ground. You might also discover new capabilities within yourself. Come see the Odyssey Ropes Course and experience the Zipline!

If you’re looking for something different in the pool, the UCSD Masters Swim program hosts this event from 10:30pm to midnite. Basically this is a 2-person team swim competition where the teams go head-to-head for titles in various ‘aquatic events’ (no normal swimming here…read water basketball, beach raft horse races, etc), untill midnight. The finals are followed by Sickie’s Smoothies in the jacuzzi, where the trophies are awarded to the top teams. This is one for the record book for sure!

Sickie, the UCSD Masters Director/Head Coach, hosts this great ocean swim that is scheduled the last Saturday in July. This year we’ll be meeting at La Jolla Shores at 7:00am and swimming to the La Jolla Cove, then a quick right turn to Scripps Pier and back to the Shores, with a total of 3 miles of swimming. It’s also a nice tour of the La Jolla Shores coastline, for those who aren’t in any hurry. Come and enjoy the beautiful Pacific with your friends!
