RECognition: Chloe Vitali, Fitness & Yoga
Recreation's monthly series to celebrate our staff

When the world starts spinning a little too quickly, Chloe Vitali knows exactly how to slow it down.
“Fitness classes (both taking and teaching them with Recreation) have this amazing benefit where I get to take an hour from everything going on — school, relationships, even things going on inside my own head — and I just focus on doing something for me and making myself feel good, strong, and confident,” she says.
Prior to coming to UC San Diego, Chloe worked at a fitness studio in her hometown of Scituate, Massachusetts, and was seeking “the same type of uplifting community, empowering workout, and fun that I had there.” That search led her to REC, where Chloe — who recently graduated in the fall of 2024 with a degree in political science/international relations from Eleanor Roosevelt College — has found and continued to bolster a fitness-centered community since the fall of 2022.
“I had a moment where I thought, ‘I don't need to rely on other people for this type of community, I can create it and contribute to it here for myself.’ ” she says.
A graduate of REC’s Group Fitness Instructor Training Program to get certified during her freshman year — which she calls “the greatest gift” — Chloe has gone on to teach Cycling and Boot Camp classes as a FitLife Fitness Instructor. She also loves to take yoga classes and attend various other REC events.
“It's given me an outlet for pursuing goals, taking time for myself, sharing energy and joy with others, and keeping my mind and body healthy,” she says.
When she’s not working out or instructing, Chloe spends time with friends, going to the beach, and reading. Before graduating, her on-campus roles also included being a member of the UCSD Surf Club and editor-in-chief at the Prospect Journal of International Affairs.
And while she’s already earned her degree, Chloe plans to stay in San Diego for “a bit” and will be teaching Spin at Main Gym on Mondays (8:30 am) and Wednesdays (6:30 pm) this Winter Quarter.
“Chloe brings her passion for fitness and music to our campus with the goal of helping our community feel strong and powerful,” says Tiffany Healy, Fitness & Wellness Program Director.
In the future, Chloe plans to work internationally on humanitarian aid projects. But for now, she’ll keep creating and continuing her UCSD fitness community.
And new members are always welcome.
“We offer Fitness classes every day of the week at all different times. It's so worth taking the time to try different ways to move your body and feel good. Plus, if you're attending a Fitness class, it takes the pressure and mental load off of planning a workout for yourself.
“Every instructor has their own methods and each class is different, so take the time to find what feels right for you!”
