From the Classroom to the Beach to the Waves

Fundamentals classes provide the classic learn-to-surf experienced in a weekly format. All of the basics are covered, from catching waves to etiquette in the line-up, including more advanced topics like wave forecasting and surfboard design.  These classes are a great value with 80 minute lessons for eight consecutive weeks.  New skills and concepts are introduced each week which allow participants to retain more information and make more individual progress.  We start in the classroom the first day, and then meet weekly for beach lessons and in-water instruction so there is plenty of surf time.  Multiple instructors work together to safely manage the class throughout the surf zones.  This course can be repeated several times as participants continue to improve from session to session and quarter to quarter.

There is inherent risk involved in learning to surf and spending time in a natural environment like the ocean.  A swim test is required in order to take a surf class to ensure all participants are proficient swimmers.  The test consists of swimming 200 yards and treading water for two minutes.  There is no time limit for the swim.
